KNIGHTS PUT UP A STRONG FIGHT, YET VICTORY EVADES | BR-W VS TKR-W | WCPL 2023
The TKR women took on the BR women in their first game of WCPL 2023 at the Kensington Oval. This was a much-anticipated contest as it was a rematch of last year’s finale where the TKR women had managed to clinch the title.
The Knights won the toss and chose to bat first. The pitch looked slightly on the difficult side and it was helping the bowling early in the innings. The openers found it tough to get going with the pitch being on the slower side. The opposition bowlers strangled the TKR batters and did not allow them to break-free. The TKR women managed to reach 73 runs in the first innings.
Defending a low total, the Knights bowlers looked to take the attack to the opposition batters and aimed to put constant pressure on them. The Knights did not allow the BR women to get going as they managed to keep getting wickets. Even with the target in their reach, the BR women struggled to get there as they lost 3 wickets 2 overs, courtesy of some brilliant bowling by Fran Jonas and Zaida James. The bowlers gave impressive performances under pressure for the Knights but weren’t able to clinch the victory. The Knights will look to rebuild and reassess, to come back strong in the next game.
