Pollard's blitz, Udana's fifer seals TKR's first win

Powered by a quickfire 58* (30 balls) from skipper Kieron Pollard and a brilliant fifer from Isuru Udana, Trinbago Knight Riders opened their account in the Hero CPL 2021 with a 6-wicket win over Barbados Royals in their second match of the campaign.

The defending champions were put in to field first which Udana absolutely made use of with a stunning 5/21 that comprised the wickets of Glenn Phillips, Johnson Charles, Jason Holder, Azam Khan and Thisara Perera. Udana ran riot through the top order and ensured Barbados didn't last their 20 overs. They lost their last 6 wickets for just 19 runs and were bundled out for 122 in 19.2 overs.

Even though the chase looked otherwise easy, TKR had a nightmarish start. Mohammad Amir sent Sunil Narine back for a duck in the very first over and then quickly wrapped up Lendl Simmons (5) and Colin Munro (8) inside the powerplay. However, what followed thereafter was an absolute carnage from the TKR skipper. Pollard hit six 6s and three 4s en route to his 30-ball 58*, and in fact, reached his fifty in 29 balls with a mighty six.

Denesh Ramdin played the role of a second fiddle with a supporting 29* and contributed to a match-winning 87*-run partnership off just 57 balls with Pollard to see TKR home by the 17th over.
